The Aventador successor is due - here is what we know.

Published 2022-12-10 by Zdravko Anticic

Just a few hours ago the Lamborghini Aventador successor was shown during a VIP event in Sant'Agata. It was so unbelievably VIP, that we were not invited.

Details about the new car have reached us anyway. There is plenty of chatter about this greatly anticipated car. The heritage is astounding, the iconic Aventador has been around for almost 12 years now.

Let’s start with the drivetrain. The engine is said to be completely new, as was expected. The new bull will have a 6.5 litre V-12 pushing over 800 horsepower. The engine will be all-aluminium, providing significant weight reduction.

There will also be electric assistance to the internal combustion engine, with not two but three electric motors. Two on the front axle, and one on the completely redesigned gearbox. With the help of electrics – it is expected to produce 1050 horsepower at peak value.

The battery pack will be one solid unit, nicely packaged and set under the central tunnel. This comes at a cost though, roughly 250 kilograms worth of extra weight.

However, the successor to the Aventador will have an extended carbon monocoque front to back making it the first car in the world with this feature. It is 188 kilos lighter than the Aventador's monococque.

Together with other advancements in weight reductions, Lamborghini have managed to keep the total weight similar to the Aventador SVJ.

With the hybrid power delivery, it is projected to get 0-100 km/h times in the region of 2.5 seconds, with around 1G peak acceleration. 0-200 km/h in under 7 seconds. While the top speed is unknown at this time, it is expected to be over 350 km/h, putting it above the Aventador.

We are surprised to learn that it is going away from a pushrod style suspension to a more conventional architecture, most likely due to the packaging situation with the addition of electric motors and the monocoque design. However, this does not necessarily mean worse handling – quite the contrary actually. Rumours note an absolutely bonkers value of lateral acceleration at about 1.5G. For reference – The 911 GT3 RS stands around 1.24G on the skidpad.

As far as the interior goes, there are various redesigns and improvements here as well. It will feature a steering wheel with two “manettino” switches. One for driving mode, akin to the Ferrari models. The other for suspension adjustment, as well as lift setting.

The dashboard redesign also follows the Ferrari footsteps a little bit, in the form of double display layout. Furthermore, there is increased headspace, which is a welcome addition. Also noted is trunk space for 2 trolley suitcases, and space for soft bags behind the seats in the cockpit.

Expected price? 490 000 EUR + VAT and options. First deliveries in Q4 2023.

It’s not yet known what this alternative to the Ferrari 812 Superfast and McLaren 765LT is going to be called, but it will be the first Lamborghini to be sold as a plug-in hybrid.

Since the Lamborghini naming culture draws inspiration from Ferrucio Lamborghini's fascination with Spanish bullfighting - we think a good guess is Lamborghini Cintrón - after the finest female matadora of modern times, Conchita Cintrón. What do you think?
