Mercato Centrale

Mercato Centrale is a spectacular food court in the middle of Florence.

There are, of course, plenty of good restaurants in a city like Florence. My favorite is Mercato Centrale – a food court in the middle of the city. There are two floors. On the lower floor there are shops where you buy and bring home locally produced food. On the upper floor, there are about thirty restaurants. Here you will find everything from sushi to crostini, all kinds of pasta, truffles and meats. The quality of the food is extremely high.

It works like any other food court. You buy your dish or drink in one of the restaurants. Then you take your tray and sit down at one of the tables in the middle.

The place is very popular. The atmos- phere upstairs among the small restaurant stands can be quite chaotic. It is sometimes difficult to find seats for larger groups at the same table. If you are more than four people, I suggest you arrive after 14:00. You can also have dinner here. Then it's not as stressful as it is during lunchtime. You cannot book a table.
