A famous island in Lago Maggiore
Situated just off the coast of Baveno, on Lago Maggiore - Isola Superiore, commonly known as Fisherman's island is only accessible by boat, and is a totally pedestrian zone.
Historically this was home to about 300 people, most of which where fishermen - thus the name. Nowadays, while the fishing tradition is still existent, it is mostly a touristic island with many fish restaurants.
It is exceptionally nice to visit in the late afternoon for an aperitivo, while the sun is setting, followed by a dinner with local dishes.
