Together with the Louvre in Paris, this is the most impressive art museum in the world. The museum is located in the middle of Florence and has a collection of art from the Italian Renaissance that is completely uparallelled anywhere.

The art consists largely of the Medici private collection, which consisted of many priceless paintings and sculptures that they themselves had sponsored hundreds of years before. The art was in public view as early as 1765, and the building formally became a museum in 1865.

You buy tickets online on the website, preferably long before you plan your visit. A visit takes the better part of a whole day.
