The text below describes Gran Turismo Classico 2009 which was held in November 2009. Although being fun and crazy, we have discontinued this event due to availability of Fiat 126p in Poland in good enough state for a safe rally.
We are not sure if you are familiar with the backbone of polish personal transport for 3 decades the Fiat 126p.
With over 3 million units produced until the production ended in the year 2000, this masterpiece of Polish ingenuity has iconic status for many of us today.
The groundbreaking concept with the engine in the far back and rear wheel drive is similiar to the VW Beetle and even modern Porsche 911s.
It has a two cylinder four stroke engine which produces a staggering 26 horsepower, propelling the 588 kilo rocket to a top speed of 108 km/h. Going downhill, some brave drivers report speeds in excess of 120km/h.
0-100km/h performance is equally impressive 55 seconds.
We have purchased 21 identical Fiat 126p in different colors - all in good working condition. We are currently underway of a rigorous technical inspection, changing fluids, fitting new brakes and new winter tires. At this point we begin to suspect that you understand where we are heading - and that adrenaline is slowly being released in your system.
Yes we are doing the ultimate challenge a gentlemens rally from Poznan to Stockholm, all in equally awesome Fiat 126ps. Upon arrival in Stockholm, the car is yours to keep. Actually, its yours the moment you leave Poznan.
The rally is done in three stages: Poznan to Berlin, Berlin to Malmö, Malmö to Stockholm. We do overnight stops in Berlin and Malmö, restarting the rally each morning. The better you do in every stage the more points you earn. The one with the most points wins eternal glory and bragging rights - and recieves an extra Fiat 126p for his codriver!
When the cars are so similar in performance there is no question that it is the most skilled drivers who will join the hall of fame. We imagine back-to-back driving in large groups for long distances on the roads of europe and sweden, slipstreaming to reduce gas consumption. Overtaking another team will demand planning and good fortune. This is going to be a lot of fun!
10 teams have already signed up and now we are looking for another 10 brave teams to join us through europe!
The event costs 1200 EUR, which can be invoiced to your business. It includes a legendary polish car, accomodation for you and your codriver in a four star hotel in Poznan, briefing dinner with a few beers, and one hell of a ride through europe!
The event will be covered in detail by Auto Motor & Sport in both the magazine and in their TV channel, making sure you will have proof to back up your story to your grandchildren.
To join us send an email with your details to peter@granturismoevents.com
We will make reservations in low cost hotels around Berlin and Malmö for all of the teams, but this expense is covered by you. So is the ferry and the brigde pass across Öresund.
A flight from Stockholm to Poznan is roughly 200 SEK with wizzair (www.wizzair.com). There are also good flights from Oslo, Gothenburg and Malmö/Copenhagen to Poznan. You want to be in Poznan before 20.00 on 12 November.
Were sorry, but this event was a one-off and has been discontinued.
